Question 134. What is the sixth commandment?
Question 134. What is
the sixth commandment?
Answer. The sixth
commandment is, “You shall not kill.”
John 7:19-20 “Did not Moses give
you the law? None of you keeps the law. Why do you seek to kill me?” The crowd
answered him, “You have a demon. Who seeks to kill you?” The Jews
judged Jesus based on the law and accused him of blasphemy.
Matthew 26:64-65 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man
sitting at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy. Why then do we need any further witnesses?
Look, you have now heard the blasphemy.” The Jews put Jesus to death for blasphemy, but God sent His Son Jesus
Christ to die on the cross as a substitute for all mankind who oppose Him.
Therefore, from the Jewish perspective, murder means breaking the law's
provision to preserve life, so the priest puts to death the one who breaks the
law. Exodus 21:12 "Anyone who kills a person shall surely be put to
death."
However, from
God's perspective, those who crucified Jesus were murderers. God was letting
the Jews know through the death on the cross that they were all murderers. They
were all like Cain. However, God would consider those who repent and enter into
Jesus Christ as having been executed together with the living stone, Jesus
Christ. The meaning of being stoned to death means that those who died with
Jesus on the cross also died on the cross.
Those who demand
the blood of Jesus every day in today's church community are crucifying and
killing Jesus every day because they do not believe in what Jesus has
accomplished, and therefore they need the blood of Jesus every day.
The first murderer
in the world is known as Cain. Cain symbolizes the one who crucified Jesus, and
Abel symbolizes Jesus Christ. Today, those who do not fully believe in the word
of God and live according to their own thoughts are like Cain, killing Abel
(Jesus Christ).
