Question 150. Are all transgressions of God's law equally heinous in the sight of God?

Answer. The transgressions of God's law are not equally heinous, but some sins have an element of aggravation in them, and are therefore more heinous in the sight of God than others.

James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. There is no such thing as a heavy sin against the law, and anyone who breaks even one of the laws will be judged. The law tells all humans that they are sinners who cannot keep the law perfectly. Therefore, the Bible tells us that humans are beings who cannot help but die before God.

To judge the severity of the 613 laws by type is meaningless before God, and only the atoning death of Jesus Christ can fulfill the law for God. To judge the severity of the law is an act of man judging God's will in the law by his own standards, and it only adds sin to God.

Matthew 5:17-19 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will in any way pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

The fulfillment of the law is to find Jesus Christ in the law. Through the sacrificial offerings of the Old Testament, the people had to realize that the sacrificial offering was the Messiah of the covenant. Those who enter into Jesus Christ are those who have fulfilled the law. Romans 8:3-4 "For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit."

Therefore, since those who are in Christ have fulfilled all the requirements of the law, they no longer need to act according to the letter of the law, and the saints are guided by the law of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the saints should keep the meaning of the law in their hearts and act according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The saints are no longer bound by the letter of the law.

For example, regarding the law that says not to steal, it is not that we do not steal because the law says so, but because the saints are led by the Holy Spirit, they realize that stealing destroys the peace and order of society, so they know and practice that they should not steal. If you are bound by the written word, you become a legalist, but if you think of it as a law that you engrave in your heart, you will eventually become someone who benefits others.
