Question 156. Is the Word of God to be read by all?

Answer. Although not all are permitted to read the Word publicly to the congregation, yet all are obliged to read it individually and with their families. For this purpose the Scriptures have been translated from the original languages into the languages of the peoples of each nation.

John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness does not understand it.

The word is given to all people, but there are those who hear the word and understand it, and those who do not understand it. There are two words in the Bible: ho logos and rhema. Ho logos means Christ working in the word, and rhema is the word as written in the Bible.

Normally, when a believer who has been called reads the Bible, he reads the written Bible, interprets its meaning, and discerns the will of God, but the chosen disciples received the meaning through direct conversation with Ho Logos and acted according to the word. Acts 23:11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, Take courage! Just as you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.’”

The meaning of the Bible changes depending on whether the word of God is read as rhema or ho logos. If read as rhema, it is considered as a word necessary for living in the world, linked to ones own thoughts, but if a believer reads the word as ho logos, it is accepted as a work related to the kingdom of God. If a believer reads the word as ho logos, he or she will be moved in the heart by the work of the Holy Spirit, his or her spiritual eyes will be opened, and he or she will be able to spread the gospel of the kingdom of God.

The gospel is the good news of the cross and the resurrection life, and the saints who are connected to Ho Logos are those who are always ready to proclaim the gospel. Ho Logos speaks to the saints moment by moment, and they proclaim the gospel according to those words.
