Question 159. How should those who are called to preach the Word of God?
Answer. Those who are
called to the ministry of the Word should teach sound doctrine diligently, both
in season and out of season; not with the enticing words of man's wisdom, but
only in demonstration of the Spirit and power; and faithfully make known the
whole counsel of God. The preacher should be fervent, with fervent love for God
and the souls of His people, adapted to the needs and capacities of the
hearers, and should sincerely aim at the glory of God, and at their conversion,
edification, and salvation.
Preachers should
not preach legalism, humanism (upper and lower extremism), and mysticism
(gnosticism), but should preach only on the basis of the gospel. The gospel is
about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ on the cross.
The preacher must
interpret the original text of the Bible (Hebrew, Greek) based on the gospel
and preach about God and the kingdom of God, human sin and repentance, the
death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and salvation. The preacher conveys to
the believers what Christ says through conversation with ho logos.
Those who do not
have a conversation with Ho Logos not only cannot accurately know the will of
God, but also do not see the work of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, since they do
not have a relationship with Ho Logos, they will distort the gospel or turn to
legalism, humanism, or gnosticism.
Ho Logos is the
Word of Christ, who comes again to the temple established in the hearts of the
disciples (saints) and dwells there, talking with them every day. There was no
New Testament at the time of the early church. In particular, Peter and Paul
acted according to His words through conversations with Ho Logos.
Acts 10:11-14 "And they saw heaven opened, and a vessel like a
great sheet let down by its four corners to the earth: in it were all manner of
four-footed beasts of the earth, and of creeping things, and of birds of the
air. And a voice came unto them, Rise, Peter, kill and eat. But Peter said, Not
so, Lord; for I have never eaten that which is common or unclean." Ton
Uranon signifies the kingdom of God in the soul. It is a scene of a
conversation between Jesus and Peter.
Acts 13:2-3 “While they were
worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work
to which I have called them.’ So after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them and sent
them away.”
Acts 9:10-12 『Now there was a disciple in Damascus
named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias.” He answered, “Here I am, Lord.” The Lord said to
him, “Get up and go to the street
called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man named Saul of Tarsus.
He is praying. And now he has seen a man named Ananias come in and put his
hands on him so that he might regain his sight.”』
Acts 16:8-10 “After passing
through Mysia, we went down to Troas. A vision appeared to Paul in the night: A
man of Macedonia was standing and urging him, ‘Come over to
Macedonia and help us.’ When Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for
Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”
Acts 27:24 "Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar,
and God has granted you all those who sail with you."
How many people in
today's church community can hear directly through conversation with Ho Logos?
However, there are those who use mysticism today to confuse the gospel. That is
why we must discern spirits well. Believers must be wary of those who are bound
by doctrine (legalism), those who are immersed in mysticism, and those who are
immersed in the world's ups and downs of faith.
