Question 196. What does the conclusion of the Lord's Prayer teach us?
A. The conclusion of the Lord's Prayer is, For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. It teaches us that we are to make
our petitions earnestly, not relying on ourselves, or on any other creature,
but upon the promises of God alone; that we are to unite our prayers with
praise, ascribing to God alone his eternal sovereignty, omnipotence, and
glorious excellency; that we may boldly and quietly trust in him, believing
that he is able and willing to help us, and that he will grant our requests.
And to testify that this is our desire and confidence, we say, Amen.
The conclusion of the Lord's Prayer is like the parable of the prodigal
son, that all people who have turned away from God and are living as sinners in
the world will turn to God and confess and praise that all things are under
God's authority and that all things on this earth will pass away, but only the
glory of God will remain.
Therefore, the day will come when all things on earth and all things in
heaven will become one, everything will become the kingdom of God, and all
things will sanctify God's name and praise God.
Because of the sins of the angels in the kingdom of God, the rest of
the kingdom of God was broken, and to confine them, the world was created and
mankind was created, but God predestined Christ, and through Christ's atoning
death, He saves those who repent, and returns everything to its original state.
Therefore, the Lord's Prayer is for believers to know and understand
these contents well and pray with the hope that the will of heaven will be done
on earth. The will of heaven is that the kingdom of God will be established on
this world.
