Question 37. How did Christ, the Son of God, become man?

Answer. Christ, the Son of God, became man by taking upon him a true body and a sensible soul. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary, and born of her, yet without sin.

Jesus Christ was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary and born as a human being. And when he was baptized by John the Baptist and came up out of the water, God called him his Son.

Matthew 3:16-17 And when Jesus had been baptized, he went up immediately from the water. And behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And lo, a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’”

Therefore, Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the Son of Man at the same time. Since Jesus is the Son of God, God gave Jesus the power to forgive the sins of the world, the power to judge, and the divine power to show various signs.

And Jesus, being the Son of Man, inherited the body of sin from Mary. However, Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, so he was sinless. The body of sin is something that started from the first man and is passed down from generation to generation. The body of sin is like a vessel that holds sin. Since there is a body of sin, sin enters there. Therefore, the purpose of Jesus coming to the world is also to remove the body of sin.

Romans 6:6-7, "Knowing this, that our old self was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin: for he that is dead is freed from sin;" When Jesus died on the cross, He said, "It is finished." John 19:30, "When therefore Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit."

Therefore, the saints in Christ cannot be held accountable for sin according to the law because the body of sin has been removed. Romans 8:1-2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
