Question 88. What will happen immediately after the resurrection?

Answer. Immediately after the resurrection there will be a general and final judgment of angels and men, but no one knows the day or hour, so that everyone may watch and pray and always be ready for the coming of the Lord.

Immediately after the resurrection of the saints, a change in the heart occurs. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. This shows the present resurrection.

Also in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, "For the Lord himself will descend from heaven (uranon) with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God. The dead (nekron) in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain (perileiphomai) will be caught up (harpazo) together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord."

Uranon means the kingdom of God (heaven). Jesus, who descends, comes back to the temple in our hearts and enters, and this explains the case of Jesus' second coming. Nekron means the spiritually dead. First, the spiritually dead will come back to life, and so those who come back to life will be given spiritual bodies and seated in heaven. Since it is expressed as "after that, we who are alive and remain (perireiformai)", it is recognized as a separate entity, but it expresses the same object.

The meaning of with them is that the spirit rises and becomes alive, that is, the body of the spirit (the body of resurrection). It means the spirit puts on the body of the spirit. The clouds symbolically represent the presence of Jesus. Harpazo means to be taken up. It means that the spirit of the saint enters the kingdom of God in the heart.

2 Corinthians 12:2 "I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago (whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, God knows) was caught up to the third heaven."

This heaven signifies the kingdom of God (temple) in the soul. Everything happens in the soul. The saints receive Jesus in that temple. Although it is described as if it happens in order, it is not a chronological expression of what happens when the Lord descends, but a situational expression.
